Inspiration
My inspiration for this game comes from the popular Steam game "Buckshot Roulette"
What it does
It is a game in Unity that is a spinoff of the game Buckshot Roulette, where a player has to defeat an AI opponent based off the traditional game "Russian Roulette".
How I built it
I built this game with Unity, using the 2D renderer. All of the pixel art in the game is drawn by me using pixilart.com; I additionally used fonts from dafont.com, and 8-bit pixel like audios from pixabay.com. There is also an additional soundtrack from the game "The Evil Within 2" that was used as one of the final challenges of the game.
Challenges I ran into
Some challenges I ran into especially with my experience in Unity was managing co-routines to time events accordingly, as Starlit Roulette is a turn based game needing a good data structure to hold and track decisions the player or AI makes.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of accepting to challenge to step out of my comfort zone and draw my own sprites and background images, I'm also proud of figuring out how to code an AI based on probability.
What I learned
I learned a lot of structure for how games run smoothly without hard checking edge cases in your code; additionally the applications of data structures that you would've learned in class are implemented very frequently for games with a large structure layout. Learning Unity's niche topics and tricks or convenient methods was a good learning experience for game developement.
What's next for Starlit Roulette
I will continue this project on my own time even after this Hackathon because I would like to add items to the game much like Buckshot Roulette but obviously with my own celestial themed spinoffs; such as a magnifying glass to see if there is a live or blank shell, instead you would have a magic ball to look into the future to predict a live or a blank, small implementations like these are my next steps for Starlit Roulette.
