This is actually a very creative hackathon theme. Instead of making a normal game, make the player think "Wait... is this a bug?" and then realize it's the solution.
Project Idea: GLITCH.EXE 👾
Tagline: "The only way to win is to break the game."
Story
You play as a tiny test character trapped inside a corrupted retro game after an update.
An AI called PatchBot keeps telling you to play normally.
But another mysterious voice, Bug, whispers:
"Don't listen to him... the game is lying."
Every level teaches you a new exploit.
Gameplay (20–25 minutes)
Level 1 — The Broken Wall
Normal Way
A giant wall blocks the exit.
Nothing works.
Hidden Glitch
Walk into a cracked pixel on the wall.
Hold Right for 3 seconds.
Your sprite slowly clips through.
Player learns:
Walls aren't real.
Level 2 — Fake Inventory
You find apples.
Inventory says:
Apple x99
Collect one more.
Inventory overflows to
Apple x100
Suddenly
Debug Key Unlocked
The game wasn't expecting 100.
Now you can open hidden doors.
Level 3 — Corrupted Bridge
A bridge disappears.
The screen flickers.
During every flicker the bridge actually exists.
Players must walk while the screen glitches.
Looks impossible until they notice the distortion.
Level 4 — Gravity Crash
Jumping normally isn't enough.
If players spam Jump + Left at the same time
gravity breaks.
They float upward.
Use this to reach secret platforms.
Level 5 — Time Freeze
Press Pause exactly when a laser fires.
Laser freezes.
Walk through.
Level 6 — Memory Leak
NPC says
"Don't pick up more than 8 coins."
Do exactly that.
Collect 9.
The coin counter corrupts.
Coins:
999999
A secret shop opens.
Final Boss — PatchBot
PatchBot keeps fixing your glitches.
He patches wall clipping.
You must find another exploit.
He patches jumping.
You use inventory overflow.
He patches overflow.
You use screen corruption.
Finally...
The entire game crashes into a "desktop."
The player thinks they lost.
After 5 seconds...
The desktop icons become platforms.
You walk across the desktop.
