Inspiration

Navigating campus resources, finding available study spaces, and getting quick answers to administrative questions is often a fragmented and frustrating experience for students. We wanted to bridge this gap by creating a centralized, intelligent ecosystem that makes university life more seamless, efficient, and connected.

What it does

SmartCampus AI is an integrated platform that serves as a student's ultimate digital companion. It features an AI-powered assistant to instantly answer administrative queries and a real-time tracking system for campus resources. A core standout feature is our interactive 3D campus map, which allows users to visualize building layouts, check room availability in real time, and easily navigate complex university environments.

How we built it

We developed the core logic and AI backend using Python, structuring the data to accurately parse and respond to student queries. For the interactive campus visualization, we built a 3D environment in Unity using C# scripting. We focused on optimizing low-poly assets and refining camera controls to ensure the map runs smoothly in a web browser. The underlying network architecture was carefully designed to ensure low-latency data syncing between our real-time database and the frontend interfaces.

Challenges we ran into

One of the most significant hurdles was seamlessly integrating the Unity WebGL build into our web framework while maintaining fast load times. Additionally, designing a network topology capable of handling continuous real-time state changes—such as live study room occupancy—required us to heavily optimize our data flow and routing to prevent system bottlenecks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of successfully transitioning our initial graybox 3D prototypes into a fully functional, interactive campus map. Achieving a responsive, low-latency AI assistant that can accurately handle campus-specific edge cases was another major technical victory for the team.

What we learned

Building SmartCampus AI pushed us to deepen our understanding of network architectures and data packet flow between disparate systems. We also gained invaluable hands-on experience in optimizing 3D environments for web deployment and writing highly efficient C# scripts to manage complex user interactions.

What's next for SmartCampus AI

We plan to expand the 3D mapping features to include multi-floor indoor navigation and integrate the platform directly with existing university Learning Management Systems (LMS). We are also exploring an AR mobile application to provide students with on-the-go, heads-up wayfinding across campus.
