Inspiration
Whether it’s a hackathon, a side project, or just looking for people to collaborate with, finding the right fit often feels harder than the actual work. You spend more time scrolling through chats, posts, and threads than actually building. Hackswipe changes that. It gives you one simple space to discover people and projects, swipe to connect, and get straight to creating—no wasted time, just real collaboration.
What it does
HackSwipe enables users to:
Create a profile highlighting skills, interests, and availability.
Discover and express interest in people, projects, and hackathons.
Form matches on mutual interest and continue in a direct message
Manage posts and view an accurate dashboard of matches, posts, and conversations.
How we built
Frontend: Next.js (App Router) with React and Tailwind/shadcn for a clean, component-driven UI.
Backend: Next.js API route (catch-all) exposing endpoints for authentication, profiles, exploration, swipes, posts, matches, inquiries, conversations, messages, overview, and read tracking.
Auth & sessions: Email/password with bcrypt and UUID session tokens.
Data layer: MongoDB with dedicated collections (users, sessions, profiles, swipes, posts, inquiries, matches, conversations, participants, messages, userReads, notifications) and targeted indexes for performance and integrity.
Tooling: Health check and one-shot index scripts for reliable setup across environments.
