HackSphere

Inspiration

As students, we often switch between multiple apps to manage assignments, track deadlines, collaborate with teammates, and clarify doubts. This constant context-switching reduces productivity and increases stress.

We were inspired to build HackSphere as a unified, AI-powered academic companion that brings task management, collaboration, and intelligent assistance into one seamless mobile experience.

We also wanted to challenge ourselves to integrate Swift/Android development with Google and AWS technologies within a 12-hour hackathon environment.

What it does

HackSphere is a smart productivity and collaboration app for students that allows users to:

📷 Scan assignments and extract deadlines using OCR 🤖 Ask academic questions through an AI assistant ⏱ Use a built-in focus timer to track productivity 👥 Create group study rooms with real-time collaboration ☁ Sync tasks and notes securely across devices

To measure productivity, we implemented a simple efficiency model:

Efficiency= Total Planned Study Time Focused Study Time

×100

This gives users a clear visual representation of how effectively they are managing their time.

How we built it

📱 Frontend Developed using SwiftUI (iOS) / Jetpack Compose (Android) Focused on a clean and intuitive UI 🔍 OCR Integration Used Google ML Kit to extract text from assignment images Applied pattern matching to detect deadlines and keywords 🤖 AI Assistant Integrated AWS Bedrock / Google Gemini API Built a chat-based interface for summarization and doubt solving ☁ Backend & Database Implemented Firebase Authentication for secure login Used Firestore for real-time database syncing Structured backend to support scalability

We divided tasks efficiently among team members to maximize productivity within the 12-hour constraint.

Challenges we ran into

⏳ Time Constraints: Building multiple features within a short timeframe required prioritization. 🔐 API Authentication Issues: Managing tokens and secure requests was complex. 🔍 OCR Accuracy: Extracted text sometimes required additional filtering for correct deadline detection. 🔄 Real-Time Sync Optimization: Ensuring smooth database updates without lag was challenging.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating AI + Cloud + Mobile technologies Delivering a working prototype within 12 hours Implementing real-time collaboration Designing a clean, student-friendly user interface Creating a measurable productivity system

What we learned

Through HackSphere, we learned:

How to integrate multiple APIs into a mobile ecosystem Efficient cloud data handling and authentication The importance of UI/UX in productivity apps Team coordination under intense time pressure Rapid problem-solving and debugging techniques

This hackathon strengthened both our technical and collaboration skills.

What's next for HackSphere

We plan to:

Add personalized AI-generated study plans Introduce gamification elements and leaderboards Improve OCR accuracy using better NLP parsing Deploy cross-platform support Implement analytics-driven performance insights

HackSphere has the potential to grow into a fully scalable student productivity ecosystem.
