Inspiration

The inspiration behind the Universal Object Identifier app was to create a tool that could make knowledge about the natural world more accessible and engaging. We wanted to harness the power of AI and machine learning to satisfy curiosity, educate, and foster a sense of exploration.

What it does

The Universal Object Identifier app currently identifies plant species using AI and custom-trained models. It leverages image recognition to provide users with real-time information about plants they encounter.

How we built it

We built the app using Swift as well as a combination of state-of-the-art machine learning libraries and frameworks. Our team collected and curated a massive dataset of over 250,000 plant images for training. We then developed and fine-tuned a custom machine learning model to recognize plant species from images. The app's user interface was designed to be intuitive and user-friendly.

Challenges we ran into

  • Collecting and managing a large and diverse dataset of plant images was a significant challenge.
  • Fine-tuning the machine learning model to achieve high accuracy required extensive computational resources and expertise.
  • If we had more time we would have had a larger and better trained model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created a working app in Swift
  • Successfully creating a plant identification app with high accuracy.
  • Leveraging AI and machine learning to make knowledge accessible to a wide audience.

What we learned

Through the development of the Universal Object Identifier app, we learned the importance of data quality and diversity in machine learning. We gained insights into the complexities of training custom models and the potential of AI to make information more accessible and interactive.

What's next for Universal Object Identifier

In the future, we plan to expand the app's capabilities to recognize and provide information about a broader range of objects beyond plants. Our vision is to create a Universal Object Identifier that can identify and provide insights into any object users encounter in their daily lives. We will continue to refine and enhance the app's features based on user feedback and advances in AI and machine learning technology. Ultimately, we aim to make the app a go-to tool for curious minds exploring the world around them.
