HackRPI 2015 Project - Binghamton Meal Plan Data Retriever
Big data has always been interesting, but we had never used it before this weekend. The goal of the project was to calculate how much money each of us spends per day on food at Binghamton. This would also allow us to estimate how much money we would need per semester.
Therefore, we wanted to pull data from the Binghamton Sodexo Dining Services website to count the total amount we spent per day and then put it into a graphical format. We learned how to use headless browsers with the PhantomJS library, used the Selenium library to automate web browsing to scrape data from websites using CSS selectors, use programming language R to generate graphics, and got practice merging branches in GitHub.
