Inspiration
The inspiration behind ElmoWorld came from our shared experience as students in PPMK. We noticed that student clubs often rely on fragmented communication channels such as WhatsApp groups, social media posts, or word-of-mouth, which making it difficult for members to stay connected and informed. Our theme, Enhancing digital connectivity within student communities, motivated us to design a solution where all student clubs could be united under a single platform. We envisioned an app where students could easily access club announcements, events, resources, and discussions in one space. The name ElmoWorld reflects our goal of building a vibrant, connected world for students.
What it does
ElmoWorld is an all-in-one digital hub for PPMK student clubs. With the app, students can:
- Join and explore different clubs.
- Stay updated with announcements and events.
- Participate in discussions and polls.
- Share resources and documents securely.
- Strengthen collaboration across different student communities. In short, it transforms scattered communication into a centralized digital ecosystem that enhances student engagement and collaboration.
How we built it
We built our project using the ChatAndBuild platform, which allowed us to quickly prototype and integrate features without starting from scratch. Our process included:
- Brainstorming & Design: Mapping the student club journey and identifying core pain points.
- UI/UX Development: Designing a user-friendly interface to make navigation simple for students and club admins.
- Core Features Implementation: Setting up club profiles, announcements, and event management.
- Integration: Leveraging ChatAndBuild tools for notifications, document sharing, and user authentication.
- Testing & Feedback: Running simulations with sample clubs and refining based on feedback.
Challenges we ran into
Building ElmoWorld was not without obstacles:
- Time Constraints: Hackathons push you to work fast, and prioritizing features was tough.
- Platform Learning Curve: While ChatAndBuild simplified development, we had to adapt quickly to its workflows and constraints.
- Balancing Simplicity & Features: We had to ensure that the app remained easy to use while still offering powerful functionality.
- Collaboration: Coordinating tasks among team members within the limited timeframe was challenging but rewarding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully created a working prototype within the hackathon time frame. Built an app that directly addresses connectivity challenges in student communities. Designed an intuitive interface that encourages engagement across clubs. Strengthened our teamwork and problem-solving skills under pressure.
What we learned
How to rapidly prototype using the ChatAndBuild platform. The importance of prioritizing user needs over adding too many technical features. How clear communication and task management make a huge difference in a short, high-pressure project. That building for communities requires empathy, simplicity, and scalability. What's next for HackPPMK25 - ElmoWorld
What's next for HackPPMK25 - ElmoWorld
Expanding features such as real-time chat, event RSVP, and a resource repository. Adding analytics dashboards for clubs to understand engagement. Scaling the app to cover not just PPMK, but potentially other student communities. Refining our prototype into a polished, fully-deployable product. We believe ElmoWorld can become a cornerstone of digital connectivity for student communities, starting with PPMK and beyond.
