Inspiration

The inspiration for HackPlanner came from the need to organize and manage tasks effectively during hackathons and other project-based events. We wanted to create a tool that combines task tracking, reminders, and alarms in a single application.

What it does

HackPlanner is a task management application that allows users to add, modify, and delete tasks. It provides features like setting reminders and alarms for important tasks. The application also includes a calendar view for easy task visualization.

How we built it

HackPlanner was built using Python for the backend logic and SQLite database for storing tasks. The graphical user interface (GUI) was developed using the Tkinter library in Python. We used the tkcalendar module for the calendar component and integrated audio playback functionality for alarms using the simpleaudio library.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges we encountered during the development of HackPlanner included integrating the calendar component, handling user input for alarms and reminders, and managing the database operations for task management. We also faced some platform-specific issues with audio playback, which we resolved by switching to the simpleaudio library.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a functional task management application with a user-friendly interface. The integration of reminders, alarms, and calendar view enhances the usability and productivity of HackPlanner. Additionally, implementing the database storage allows tasks to persist even after closing the application.

What we learned

During the development of HackPlanner, we gained experience in working with GUI libraries in Python, managing databases with SQLite, and handling user input for alarms and reminders. We also learned how to incorporate audio playback functionality using the simpleaudio library.

What's next for HackPlanner

In the future, we plan to enhance HackPlanner with additional features such as task prioritization, task categorization, and the ability to share tasks with teammates. We also aim to improve the user interface and add more customization options for the calendar view. Furthermore, we intend to deploy HackPlanner as a standalone application for users to download and use on their devices.
