Inspiration
We wanted to develop a site that matched our values. EMAJJ Inc. is a residential solar energy solution manufacturer, distributor, and installer. Within its residential operations, EMAJJ has two solar panel options, two inverter options, as well as an optional storage system extension and an optional installation expense. EMAJJ is currently expanding into the commercial space as well. EMAJJ Inc.’s slogan is “Where Imagination Soars.” Its mission statement is "EMAJJ Inc. is dedicated to facilitating the widespread adoption of residential and commercial solar energy solutions." Its vision statement is "Widespread renewable energy adoption across the globe." Its values are community, charitability, sustainability, and integrity.
What It Does
Our website functions as a guide, a store, and a funnel. EMAJJ Inc. is a residential solar energy solution manufacturer, distributor, and installer. Within its residential operations, EMAJJ has two solar panel options, two inverter options, as well as an optional storage system extension and an optional installation expense. Potential clients for residential services are able to view our products through images and in-depth descriptions. They are then directed to a contact form in order for us to find out a little more about them and to get back to them with a quote. Potential clients for commercial services are directly sent to our contact us page.
How We Built It
After reading the prompts released on Thursday (4/8) morning, we immediately began debating on which prompt to go with. After selecting the prompt, we entered the brainstorming phase. We drew out variables like the time we had to complete the project and what exact steps we needed to take in that time to most efficiently reach our desired end result. We built our program on Visual Studio with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Challenges We Ran Into
This experience was the first time each of us had worked as a team to develop any kind of software product, and most of us had limited coding experience. Due to this, recalling these languages while working with each of our own coding formats was the biggest challenge we faced.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
By creating an appealing and functioning site that is inline with our values while also developing our collaboration and leadership skills, we got more out of this event than we could ever ask for. We even managed to win an honorable mention award!
What We Learned
This was an amazing opportunity to step out of our comfort zones and develop the skills of collaboration, responding to business problems, building and optimizing a vibrant solution in a limited time-frame, and team brainstorming and coordination. We were also able to brush up on various development concepts and learn how to code in a team-based environment. We look forward to further participating in similar events in the near future!
