Inspiration

HackMe started from my experience as a technical student. I often looked for smaller hackathons and competitions where I could compete with students around my level. This made me think: instead of always searching for someone else's hackathon, why can't students create their own?

That question became HackMe.

The Problem

Students who want to organize a small hackathon may need to depend on colleges, institutions, or organizers. There is also a need for smaller competitions within friend groups, college communities, clubs, and local student communities.

The Solution

HackMe is a student-first hackathon platform concept where students can become both participants and hosts.

The workflow is:

Create → Configure → Share → Join → Build → Submit → Judge → Results

The goal is to bring this experience into one simple platform.

What I Built

For this submission, I built a functional frontend prototype demonstrating the main HackMe workflow.

The prototype includes:

  • Landing page
  • Explore hackathons
  • Create hackathon
  • Join hackathon
  • Hackathon details
  • Dashboard
  • Team management
  • Project submission
  • Judging interface
  • Leaderboard

The current prototype uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript with browser LocalStorage for prototype state and is deployed on Vercel.

How I Built It

I focused on building the core user experience first: how a host creates an event and how participants discover, join, build, submit and view results.

The current version is intentionally a lightweight prototype rather than a production backend system.

Challenges

The main challenge was designing a simple experience that supports both hosts and participants while keeping the workflow easy to understand.

What I Learned

Building HackMe helped me understand how to turn a product idea into a complete user workflow and how to think about the experience from both the host and participant perspective.

Future Scope

The next stage would include:

  • Authentication
  • Persistent database storage
  • Multi-user synchronization
  • Server-side authorization
  • Production-ready hackathon management

HackMe is currently a functional prototype demonstrating the product concept and workflow.
