Inspiration

I'm a Games Technology Student at Coventry Uni, and I've attended lots of Game Jams over the years, but I've never done a Hackathon. I decided to take the opportunity to see what I could do on my own in 24h, taking a loose them of "Hacking", to commerate my first Hackathon.

What it does

The Game is not a completed product, however it shows off some cool features that I can hopefully build upon later. You have two lasers, one for collecting resources to build turrets, and then another for hacking enemy robots, also gaining turrets. So essentially two currency systems, otherwise some standard Turret Defense apply, base health, round spawning, grace period etc.

How I built it

The entire project was built in Unity using C#, with assets being taken from the Polygon Sci-fi bundle.

Challenges I ran into

I'm still unfamiliar with the Unity Navmesh (Unity Pathfinding AI), and I made heavy use of it this time, so getting to grips with that more was a challenge, especially when I wanted to have multiple areas for different enemies. Also I've never used Unity's partical effects or Linedrawer, so all of that was throwing up new challenges.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

All things considered, I'm still pretty happy with the amount I got done over a 24h period, and I look forward to hopefully continuing this project

What's next for Hacking Turret Defense

Polish, Sounds, extension of features. More sophisticated AI, less bodged models, there's so much.
