Inspiration

On the first night of the hackathon, one of our group members was complaining about their suggested Spotify playlists, specifically focusing on how Spotify rarely suggests more obscure music or songs that the user doesn't already know. And so, Hackify was born.

What it does

Hackify takes an artist, suggested by the user, and recommends nine songs by three different artists. The user then ranks each song. From there, the user is given stats on the genres of the artists they've just shown interest in, as well as the names of those artist. When you click on the artist, you're also given three more artist suggestions.

How we built it

For the front end of the web application, we used React and Node.js; for the back end, we used Express and Spotify APIs.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into certain challenges with Git and the Spotify API.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Ayanna: As the only team member who isn't a computer science major, I'm proud to have learned how to use Figma in order to contribute to Hackify with my designs.

Josiah: I worked with different libraries and APIs.

Tyler: I am proud that I learned useful skills on quick software development from things such as the multiple workshops and working on the project.

What we learned

Ayanna: I learned about certain aspects of graphic design, as well as the process of pushing out a technical project!

Tyler: I learned more about JavaScript and CSS while working on this project.

Josiah: The main thing I learned was how to balance workload with other activities, such as the workshops.
