Inspiration
The first step of the project involved reading about rugged philosophy and brainstorming various areas where cybersecurity is prevalent (See Cybersecurity Ideation image). Education was then selected because of all the items listed, this is the most proactive solution(See Education Details image). The other solutions lean more towards the reactive end of situations. Additionally, I wanted to create a product that was accessible for people of all ages, skill levels, and financial scenarios that has a unique value (See Unique Solution Image).
What it does
My goal is to teach new developers about cybersecurity, as well as highlight the value of secure systems to technology and product teams through a fun and engaging Among Us - style game.
How I built it
The design for this project was built in Framer. I first built the design library, then made questions, and finally, combined the two and connected the screens! Please see the Design Components image for elements utilized (Credits to @TheRushingSnail on Reddit for the Among Us Character graphics!), and the Questions image for some brainstorming that occurred during this process.
Challenges I ran into
The first challenge that I ran into was not knowing how to develop an app. After researching some tools, I decided to use the framer prototyping tool to ensure that I could show what the system would look like! The second challenge I ran into was how to devise questions that are short and sweet, engaging, and still educational. For this, I included ciphers, as well as other intro concepts such as data privacy and SQL injections for variety, but I wasn't quite sure how to simplify some concepts such as Bash.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I am proud that I learned how to use a new software (Framer), and I was able to create reusable design components!
What I learned
Throughout my first hackathon, I also learned a lot about what cybersecurity is composed of, including ciphers, data privacy, and SQL injections. I also gained many skills in design, as I learned to make an interactive prototype in Framer - can't wait to see where this can go in the future!
What's next for Hackers Among Us
Future development will include development of this project will include additional questions. Moreover, a backend system will be developed to check user inputs, and an online database will be developed for functional multiplayer game creation.
