Inspiration

One problem that exists for all hackers collaborating with other hackers around the globe is Timezone issue. it becomes difficult to collaborate hacking with people of different timezones and we had faced this problem personally thats why we planned to build "Hacker TimeZone Converter".

What it does

It is an webapp that allows user to select Date and Time and then Convert that Date into any TimeZone format they want.

How we built it

We built the web app using php, used timezone_identifiers_list from php official website and then added a form layout where user can choose between Date and time for conversion. Then we hosted that site using Linode and added domain with the help of GoDaddy Registration.

Challenges we ran into

For the site, it took a bit longer time to do backend and understand how to process user data. We both had never used Linode and getting the linode credits was difficult for us however finally we got the card working and for deployment too, It took longer process as we were new to Linode but finally the site was online.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really happy to build something for the Community of Amazing hackers around the globe and I think we personally are going to use the site at every hackathons to convert the schedule of MLH and other hackathons as well as while collaborating with hackers around the globe.

What we learned

Actually almost the whole project was new to us and we built something together but something really new on course of this hackathons was using Linode for deployment of our web app.

What's next for Hacker Zone Converter

Currently, the conversion converts from one timezone to another but we are planning to make some improvements so that it will generate desired list of Country Time based on input of the user. So, User can get Multiple Timezone results from single input.
