Inspiration

We were just looking for something on the simpler end but still challenge ourselves and try to learn something new. As a result, we started thinking of simple board games and card games. Games like tictactoe seemed to simple, while go fish seemed a bit too complex but blackjack seemed to be a good middle ground in complexity for our skill level.

What it does

Essentially allows the user to play blackjack alone. It can't support more than one (1) player and also has no betting/gambling mechanic implemented as well as many mechanics/rules of blackjack missing.

How we built it

The program was coded in python with the help of the pygame and random modules.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenges were getting all of the buttons for the GUI to work properly as well as calculating the value in the hand of the dealer and the player.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Honestly, the whole thing. One of us had no experience in pygame and essentially learned the basics in around an hour and managed to implement code using it. The other had only used it a few times before. On top of that, we managed to do some OOP which is something neither of us are quite confident in yet.

What we learned

The biggest thing we learned was the creation of a GUI using pygame. We also learned how to add functional buttons to the GUI as well.

What's next for HackED Beta Blackjack 404

Fixing buttons, getting full functionality, debugging a lot of problems, etc. A lot of errors to clean up and fix
