Inspiration
Year after year, every semester from the beginning through the end, we’ve noticed one of the biggest struggles most college students, including us, face is the ability to meet and connect with people in their own class. They’re repeatedly asking on various different social media platforms (Facebook, Reddit, etc.) to be added into a group chat for a course they’re registered in. Someone always has to take the initiative at the beginning of every quarter to create a new group chat. Even after it is created, not every student has access to it since they need a link or an invite to join the chat. At Unigrid, we’re proposing a solution to this by creating a platform with pre-established group chats, for every single course provided by the university, which can be joined using a valid school email address.
What it does
Provides a platform for people to build professional connections and find a community in college.
How we built it
We used Node.js in React Native to build our app by using design templates that we created in Figma.
Challenges we ran into
Some of our biggest challenges was creating creating a drop down list and integrating the Google cloud based group chat feature into our application.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created 6 pages and connected them though navigation features. We also implemented the button and image features. This was our first time creating an app, using Node.js & React Native. We started this yesterday so we're happy about what we could achieve and learn in the past 36 hours.
What we learned
We learned how to create a mobile based application using React Native.
What's next for HackD
- Implementing a drop-down feature to help people choose classes
- Using Firebase from Google cloud to integrate the group chat feature in to our application
