Inspiration

Introducing our app, a vital tool for urbanites to safeguard the green heart of our cities. As our urban landscape grows, public trees face challenges like restricted roots and compacted soils, especially during extreme droughts and heats. Our app is the solution, notifying residents near public trees to water them when they need it most. Real-time alerts guide users to specific locations, providing details on each tree's unique needs. By empowering citizens with knowledge and fostering community involvement, our app ensures the well-being of urban greenery. Join us in becoming stewards of the cityscape—download the app and help our urban trees thrive.

What it does

IoT-sensors placed in greeneries along the road report the current moisture values of the soil. During extreme heats with no rain in sight, citizen which life by are tasked to water trees. In return to keeping their neighborhood green and alive even after extreme heatwaves, they can earn Munich-Coins which they can redeem for Museum or city pool admissions.

How we built it

We used an esp to capture the bluetooth events of the sensor and rely them to our backend via a MQTT broker. The backend evaluates the state of the tree and in case there won't be any rain in the next days and the soil is very dry, a task/multiple tasks are sent out to the users with the app installed via the MQTT broker again.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating all components together at the end.
