Inspiration

We just thought the idea of simulating water was very interesting and thought it'd be fun to try out.

What it does

The code takes the different text files and displays them individually repeatedly to give a flip-book effect.

How we built it

We built 3 different frames of the waterfall. The main structure of the waterfall remained the same e.g. the grass and land but we just changes the water pattern to give the simulation of water flow.

Challenges we ran into

There wasn't any waterfall art that we could find online to match the same idea we had so we had to imitate a hand drawing into ASCII. It was challenging because none of us were artist.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

In the end the waterfall turned out looking really good especially when played at a faster rate. So, we're proud to submit it as an additional challenge

What we learned

Making game art back in the day when ASCII characters were the only thing available is hard!

What's next for HackathonUK ASCII Challenge

We tried to do a blinking frog but failed to finish it so maybe that?
