Inspiration
We saw how scattered and inconsistent hackathon hosting tools are—some rely on spreadsheets, others on custom portals. We wanted to build one unified, flexible, and simple platform for all.
What it does
Hackathons.space lets organizers create hackathons with configurable features like submissions, judging, public voting, and prizes. Participants can submit projects, judges score them, and winners are ranked.
How we built it
We used modern full-stack tools with role-based access (Super Admin, Organizer, Judge, Participant), built a modular dashboard, added GitHub/email login, dynamic judging logic, and easy content management.
Challenges we ran into
Designing a system flexible enough to support both fully-managed and externally-hosted hackathons, and making the judging criteria system configurable but simple, were major design and UX challenges.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We built a fully functioning, scalable platform that covers all major hackathon needs in a clean, elegant interface—while remaining intuitive for both organizers and participants.
What we learned
We learned how important it is to design software that accommodates different user types and levels of complexity, while keeping things simple and friendly for non-technical users.
What's next for hackathons.space
We're planning to add team formation tools, real-time updates, sponsor integrations, and monetization features like paid listings. We also want to open-source parts of the platform for community use.
