Inspiration

The need to have a free platform where women and people of all gender can learn, whilst gaining experience ready for the job market. In the current climate up-skilling and experience have proved to invaluable and for those who cannot access internships, online skills ( because they often aren't free) and also despite gaining skills they don't have experience so it becomes even harder to enter the job market.

In addition, we are often under a considerable amount of pressure thus we cannot take time out for ourselves and even to find out about self-care we need to do some more research, a time consuming task. The aim is to have a platform which encompasses; self-care, learning and celebrating achievements of women.

What it does

The website provides an interactive platform to learn bespoke content delivered by non-profit organisations and industries. The learning content engages users to also take part in projects to apply their skillset and be creative to solve problems, once submitted the aim is to provide feedback and certification, to be boost their qualifications. The aim is to have live workshops or employer engagement activities too in the future.

The website also has a self-care section, with skin care guides, mindfulness and wellbeing guides. The skincare guide aims to provide users with skin care products and regimens for different budgets, they can also take a quiz to learn about their skin type, we also provide DIY recipes from around the globe, celebrating women around the globe. The mindfulness guide aims to have videos, music and activities to relax users, the user can also plan goals and to unleash potential goals on to paper. The wellbeing guide aims to provide a range of recipes and tips to promote lifelong wellbeing rather than gruelling diets as well as exercise routines to fit into different lifestyles. The aim is to have beauty and skincare gurus to host workshops.

Our blog aims to allow users to unleash their creativity and share their stories, it also provides users who would like to enter a career in creative writing to gain experience.

We want to empower women by celebrating their achievements, through the webpage we can share individual stories but we also aim to have some live Q&A sessions in the future.

When users enter our website we want them to feel the vibe and be excited to embark on this journey hence we have the option to play music as some users may find it annoying to have music played for them as soon as they enter the website. The toggle button allows users to cater their experience in light/dark mode.

Finally, so users can stay up to date and we can continue to motivate them we have the option to sign up for a free daily newsletter aimed to bring the highlights of the news and trends and a motivational quote of the day to uplift them.

How I built it

We used HTML, CSS and Javascript. Then the design of the gifs was made using Canva.

Challenges I ran into

The ideas were brilliant but with little time and time zone differences alongside workshops and other events, it made working towards the complete idea rather difficult. Therefore we opted to create a layout to showcase our idea, the only thing left is to make the idea come to life through written content, learning content and launching activities !

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Creating a website, the layout and interactions through the slideshow and creating an idea in 24 hours working in a different time zone. Despite knowing a bit about HTML and CSS, I haven't worked with the programming languages for a while so it was fun to get to refresh my memory whilst creating the project.

What I learned

I learnt to collaborate and work in a different time zone to mine and to prioritise sections.

What's next for Hackathon-The empowered self

Hopefully to launch, I really enjoyed working on this and I can see how beneficial this would be to the community. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to compete in the hackathon and to learn whilst creating this project.
