Inspiration
During hackathons, many participants focus heavily on building their project but overlook basic submission requirements such as having a public repository, a demo video, or completing all registration steps. These small misses can lead to disqualification even when the idea is good. This inspired me to build a simple tool focused on submission readiness rather than complexity.
What it does
Hackathon Readiness Checker helps participants quickly verify whether they are ready to submit their project. It provides a checklist of essential hackathon requirements and calculates a readiness score, along with clear feedback on what is missing and why it matters.
How I built it
The project was built as a lightweight web application using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. I focused on simplicity and clarity so that anyone can use the tool instantly without setup. All logic runs in the browser, making it easy to demo and easy to understand.
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge was deciding what to include without overengineering the solution. Instead of adding unnecessary features, I focused on making the tool reliable, clear, and aligned with common MLH hackathon rules.
What I learned
I learned that even simple tools can provide real value when they solve a practical problem. I also gained a better understanding of how important clear requirements and submission discipline are in hackathons.
