Inspiration
We wanted to make an app that would be useful for university/college students. Cooking for yourself is one of the hardest things to get used to when coming to post-secondary school, and PantryPal is useful tool to aid students in learning how to cook.
What it does
The user can input the food items they have in their pantry (and fridge), then PantryPal will generate a list of possible recipes that can be made with the food on hand. The use of Spoonacular.api allows you to access over 365,000 recipes and 86,000 food products
How we built it
We developed PantryPal using Android Studio and Java.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we faced was building the GUI for the app. None of our group was familiar with building apps in Android Studio so the learning curve was quite steep.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy that we got a working product.
What we learned
We learned a lot about Android Studio, but more importantly we learned about how rewarding perseverance and hard work is.
What's next for Hackathon Project
Polishing up the GUI and improving app functionality, publishing the app on the Google Play Store.
