Inspiration

Arrr me hearties! We've embarked on a grand quest to solve the prominent social issues plaguin' our world, from healthcare to poverty, world hunger to social justice. The key lies with our national, state, and local governments, overseeing all these matters. But what we lack be a vast portal o' information that's as accessible and simple as findin' buried treasure!

What it does

Our mission? We're craftin' a website so easy to use, it'll be as familiar as scrollin' through Instagram or Twitter. We call it Pirate Polls, payin' homage to our hackathon spirit with a swashbucklin' logo. The interface? Clean, direct, and as seamless as sailin' on calm seas.

Key Features:

Ease of Access Navigation Bar Home Page Interactive buttons | Collapsable Menus of Government Branches | Drop Down Menus for State and County Selection for Voting | Drop Down Menus for Voter Registration Forms | Drop Down Menus for selecting State and County Laws and Propositions |

How we built it

Using HTML and CSS, we created a welcome splash page with a navigation bar at the top right. There are 4 large interactive buttons to emphasize basic government knowledge, voting location & dates, voting registration, and laws & propositions.

For state and country information we linked a back-end API after completing front end development in html and css. Utilizing techniques in drop down menus, collapsable menus, and geolocation services, we are able to organize information in a digestible way.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges we face included: -Formatting the text, photos, and interactive buttons to fit the screen. -Understanding front end and back end development concepts for our group; we are coding beginners. -Learning python libraries in back end development and working with data API's. -Handling errors and debugging

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-The ability to communicate as team and share ideas, constructive criticism, and time management -Making the project fun -Generating ideas to implement better user interface -Ability to take on new concepts or ideas in full stack without much experience!! -Ability to manage smaller tasks in order to complete the big picture -Researching tutorials and generalizing the task to our project

What we learned

-Front end web development in html and css -Back end development -Python libraries and utilizing API's -Constructing web formats and structure -UX/UI interfaces, language -Product and Logo -Research and analysis of existing data in goverment policy and figures. -Collaboration with developers

What's next for Hackathon-Pirate Polls

It is easy to scale this as a more interactive social platform. Think of it as the best of both Instagram and Linkedin, with implementation for messaging locals in your area for volunteering in government events, organizing your own political rallies and forming a network. In future iterations, we can include community engagement points and a latest news tab to stay up to date, and for graphics, implementing interactive data can create a more engaging experience. We also plan to use data APIs to provide information on various states and counties across the nation.
