BrainThought: Elevate your mind, one puzzle at a time
What Inspired Us
When reading about NRVE’s sponsor track for this Hackathon competition, what inspired us was how they placed such high awareness in the growing mental health crisis impacting people of all ages - from kids to young adults facing low mental moral and cognitive well-begin. After gathering our ideas to help NRVE’s mobile game needs, we asked ourselves_ What if a game encapsulated more than just fun?_What if a game could incorporate building emotional moral, relieve stress for all aged users, and boost moods, all while playing?
Those questions led us to create BrainThought a mobile game designed to empower users through mini-games that encourage emotional intelligence, cognitive fitness, and mental well-being - helping young users stay sharp and feel good, one game at a time.
What We Learned
Throughout this hackathon, we dove deep into the science of mental wellness and emotional development. We learned that:
Throughout this Hackathon, we dived deep into the corelation of mental health and mobile game development. We learned that:
Emotional intelligence can be practiced and built through game mechanics by helping users be more aware of their emotions.
Repetition gaming not only reinforces positive habits like mindfulness, but it enhances empathy and emotional labeling skills
User reflection can help users grow in self-awareness and how emotions play a role into game play.
Throughout the engaging gameplay, it serves as a bridge between mental health and fun.
How We Built It
We built BrainThought using Unity with C#, creating a series of mini-games inspired by proven cognitive training and mood boosting activities. Some of our core features include:
- ZenMelody – A pattern memory game using calming sounds.
- BreathSync – A memory game fused with breathing exercises to calm the mind.
- ClearSight – A logic puzzle game to support fast responsive thinking.
- ShadowSnap – A visual-spatial game to challenge focus and attention.
- Daily Mood Tracker – Reflective emotion selections to support emotional growth and track mental states.
Challenges We Faced
- Balancing engagement and calm: Designing games that are both fun and stress-relieving was a tightrope.
- Time constraints: Implementing and polishing multiple game modes in under 24 hours pushed our limits.
- Data persistence: Saving daily mood emotions in a way that was easy to revisit and track over a week was a technical hurdle.
- Emotional tone: We wanted the game to be uplifting without feeling too forced, which meant careful design choices.
Final Thoughts
BrainThought is more than a game — it’s a personalized mental strength trainer for your mind. We’re proud to have built something that not only addresses mental health for engaging users, but adds value to it. We believe this game can keep the brain sharp and feel great— and BrainThought is our first step in that direction.
