Inspiration
The rise of online subterfuge. How else can you break the ice with an old friend?
What it does
The program "generates" 😉 a custom Rick Rolls to trick your friends with. You can input a title, description, and thumbnail to our program and out comes a unique Rick Roll link!
How we built it
We used JavaFX for the front end and the Youtube API to upload.
Challenges we ran into
SPOILER The original intent of our program was to upload a new video to YouTube with each click: each with its unique title, thumbnail, and description. However, we had to scrap this idea due to it being too complex for us, and we made the best with what we had.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting our first Hackathon under out belt. It's nice to finish something, even if it's not as great as you originally wanted it to be. And, hey, if we can get a few laughs along the way, even better.
What we learned
Keep an eye on the clock. The time frames of Hackathons are tight, so you have to be careful about what you're capable of doing within that limit. Also, make sure to go to the workshops- they're really helpful! We only started going to the workshops towards the middle, and they were quite eye opening. Not all of the speakers are mind-blowing, but it only really takes one good keynote to open your horizons. Seek out the workshops: you never know which one will be life-changing for you!
What's next for Rick Roll Generator™
More memes, more laughs, and more hackathons. Be on the lookout for Rick Roll Generator 2.0, this time fitted with even more hilarious bamboozlery and maybe even the elusive YouTube upload functionality!
