🚀 Inspiration With 130,778 participants flooding the World's Largest Hackathon and only hours left on the clock, we realized one thing: people don’t need more features—they need clarity, fast.
Originally, we aimed to build a complex dashboard. But as the scale exploded, we stripped it down to what teams really need in crunch time: a way to instantly know if their project meets the rules, tracks, and bonus prize criteria.
That’s how the new Hackathon Compliance Tracker was born. A link-in, report-out system designed for speed, confidence, and shareability.
This is my first real solo project—but it wouldn’t be finished without the support of our team at Riviere Group, who helped finalize design, QA, and production.
💡 What it does The Hackathon Compliance Tracker is a lightweight, one-click compliance tool. Just paste your Bolt project link, hit submit, and receive a full breakdown of where your project stands—rules, submission criteria, bonus tracks, everything. : 🔹 An AI Chat Widget powered by GPT-3 that answers any question about the Bolt Hackathon. Ask it about deadlines, prize categories, judging criteria—it delivers instant, accurate answers that can save your submission.
We didn’t plan to build it. But once it worked, we knew it was special.
🔧 How we built it Built 100% in Bolt using modern tools:
React (UI)
TypeScript (type safety)
Tailwind CSS + Headless UI / Radix UI (design)
Framer Motion (animations)
Zustand (state management)
React Hook Form + Zod (form handling and validation)
Axios (API requests)
OpenAI GPT-3 via Vercel SDK (AI assistant)
Lucide, Clsx, Tailwind Merge, Date-fns, and more for clean UI logic and formatting
Vite for blazing-fast build and dev cycles
Everything is optimized for speed and simplicity—with zero external dependencies or backend setup required.
🧱 Challenges we ran into We started with too much. The hardest part was cutting scope: multiple dashboards, evidence uploads, multi-user tracking—it all had to go.
Instead, we focused on what mattered most in the final hours: fast, clear, actionable feedback on your submission.
Making that shift—from complex platform to frictionless tool—was the real challenge.
🏆 Accomplishments we’re proud of
Built a production-ready app as a first-time solo dev
Shipped inside Bolt only, with no backend
Created a live AI chat assistant that’s genuinely useful
Built something that actually helps people submit with confidence
Finalized and polished the app with help from our team at The Riviere Group
📚 What we learned
Less is more—especially in high-stakes environments
AI isn’t just a feature—it can transform user experience
Building with intent and speed is better than waiting for perfect
When the clock is ticking, clarity is the ultimate UX
🔮 What’s next for Hackathon Compliance Tracker
Open-source the code for the community
Expand the AI assistant’s functionality and dataset
Build judge-facing tools for real-time triage
Turn this into a repeatable template for other hackathons, accelerators, and startup competitions
This wasn’t just a hackathon project. It was the first real product I ever built—and we shipped it under pressure, at scale, for 130,778 people.
Let’s finish strong. 🚀
