Inspiration

Hackathons are one of the best ways to learn, collaborate, and innovate — but the process can be overwhelming. Finding teammates with complementary skills, brainstorming impactful ideas, and managing everything under a tight timeline often becomes chaotic. We wanted to create something that brings clarity and collaboration to this process. That’s how Hackathon Buddy was born — a platform that helps participants connect, create, and coordinate effortlessly.

What it does

Hackathon Buddy streamlines the hackathon journey from start to finish. It allows users to: 1) Find teammates based on interests, domains, and skill sets. 2) Generate project ideas instantly through AI-powered suggestions. 3) Organize tasks with an intuitive dashboard for project tracking. 4) Enjoy a clean, responsive interface with dark/light theme support.

It’s designed to make hackathons less stressful and more enjoyable, turning ideas into action with ease.

How we built it

Hackathon Buddy is built using a modern web development stack focused on performance, scalability, and beautiful UI design. Tech Stack: Next.js + React – for a dynamic, component-based structure Tailwind CSS + shadcn/ui + Radix UI – for a responsive, accessible, and elegant design system Lucide React, Embla Carousel – for icons and smooth UI elements React Hook Form + Zod – for structured and validated forms Next Themes – for dark/light mode Sonner – for toast notifications and user feedback The design focuses on clarity, speed, and interactivity, ensuring users have a fluid experience while navigating between different sections.

Challenges we ran into

Every good build comes with its hurdles — ours included: 1)Balancing aesthetic design with performance optimization. 2)Ensuring the interface remained responsive and consistent across screen sizes. 3)Managing component reusability while integrating multiple UI libraries. 4)Fine-tuning state management and validation for complex form interactions. Each challenge pushed us to think deeper about structure, user experience, and design principles.

What we learned

What's next for Hackathon Buddy

This is just the beginning. We plan to expand Hackathon Buddy with: 1) AI-based teammate recommendations using skill and interest matching. 2) Realtime collaboration tools — chat, task updates, and notifications. 3) Hackathon discovery and leaderboard integration. 4) Gamification features to reward creativity and teamwork.
