Inspiration:
Fraud is a significant problem in the UK, with it being the most common crime occurring to individuals in England and Wales. However, the amount of fraud reported to the police is a small percentage compared to the estimated cases. This could be due to stigma or a lack of awareness in reporting fraud.
What it does:
Our team has developed a mobile friendly website (which could eventually be turned into an app) to educate individuals about types of fraud, characteristics of scams and guidance on the reporting process.
How we built it:
HTML, Bootstrap, Python API GitHub, Visual Studio Code
Challenges we ran into:
Deciding what everyone wanted to do, and what challenge seemed the most interesting was the first step. We also had difficulty with getting Devpost to function correctly, and the API for the Email Contents Scanner is currently not functional. Due to time constraints and our team's skill level, creating an app would be unachievable and too stressful, therefore we compromised on a mobile friendly website with interactivity. (Using the "Add to Home Screen" button could somewhat simulate an application as well)
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
Working together with people we have never worked with before, from disciplines ranging from Games Design to Computer Science, to Cybersecurity. Helping each other, even with the simplest of questions or tasks, to build up team spirit and a sense of belonging.
What we learned
Nothing goes as planned, be flexible and adapt to anything!
What's next for Hackathon 2025 (Barclays Life Skills)
As everyone has access to the repository, it can be updated in the future if the group wishes to do so.
