Compass - Learning System for People Who Run Out of Discipline

Inspiration

We're terrible at learning. We do not know, what we don't know. We know how to teach the AI model, but do not know how our brain studying. We watch videos, take courses, ask ChatGPT. But nothing sticks.

The problem isn't the methods. It's no one reminding us to actually review.

Most people fail because:

  • Don't know what to focus on
  • Don't verify they understand
  • Don't remember to review
  • Don't see progress

We built Compass for people like us.

What it does

4 simple things:

  1. Diagnose - Find YOUR knowledge gaps (with tests, on the whole theme)
  2. Navigate - Build YOUR learning path (not only theory and practice , also a remember system)
  3. Practice - Answer questions YOU have to think about
  4. Remember - System reminds you when to review (science-based timing)

Result: Making the procces of the learnin more faster, and efficient.

How we built it

  • Frontend: HTML+CSS+JS
  • Backend: Python + FastAPI + Java SpringBoot

- AI: OpenAI API

Challenges

Challenge 1: We wasted 6 hours trying to solve "better learning" instead of "accountability for lazy people"

Challenge 2: Everyone asked "why not ChatGPT?" — ChatGPT requires discipline. We automate it.

Challenge 3: We thought structure = motivation. Wrong. Structure helps people who already want to learn.

What we're proud of

Found the real problem (not methodology, but accountability) Discover the main solution by using the science of the human brain Created honest positioning (not "revolutionizing education")

What we learned

  • Ideas change - iterate fast
  • Positioning matters more than features - spend time on this
  • You can't code motivation - you only remove friction
  • Narrow your target - "for junior devs before interviews" > "for everyone"

What's next

Q2 2026: Mobile app, spaced repetition scheduler, code review mode 2030: The OS for learning

Tech Stack

  • HTML + CSS + JS
  • Python + FastAPI
  • OpenAI API GPT-4
  • Spaced repetition algorithm

Bottom line

We didn't revolutionize education.

We created a discipline system for lazy people.

And that's way more useful.
