Inspiration

The idea for BoostFolio originated from a challenge presented at this Hackathon - enhancing personal portfolios and assisting others in improving theirs. With a multitude of ideas and interests, it can be difficult to pinpoint which projects will resonate most with potential employers, who often value different aspects. Furthermore, considering every job requires a slightly unique approach, the task of tailoring your portfolio becomes even more crucial.

What is does

BoostFolio is that platform, designed to analyse your portfolio and CV against the job description of your desired role. This approach takes the guesswork out of portfolio enhancement, ensuring that your skills and projects are portrayed in the most attractive light. By providing tailored suggestions for improvement, BoostFolio helps you align your portfolio with each unique job opportunity, boosting your prospects and paving the way to your career goals.

How we built it

We used Django as a web framework to execute backend logic and connect with the front-end user interactions, which were designed in Figma. The front-end was built using a blend of React.js and static HTML, while the database is hosted on the cloud using CockroachDB.

Challenges we ran into

One significant challenge we faced during this project was connecting the different frameworks that we used. For instance, Django, our chosen web framework, does not natively support integration with React.js, which we used for front-end development. This presented us with some technical difficulties that we needed to overcome. Another challenge was maintaining a centralised database. Additionally, extracting data from PDF files posed another challenge due to the complexities involved in accurately parsing and structuring the data.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a diverse team comprising members from different timezones in India, the UK, and the US, we overcame the challenges of geographical separation to collaborate effectively over a span of 48 hours. This achievement is a testament to our commitment, dedication, and ability to synchronize our efforts across various time zones. Despite the physical distance, we worked seamlessly together, leveraging our unique perspectives and expertise to deliver outstanding results. Our accomplishment fills us with pride and reinforces the power of teamwork transcending borders and time differences.

What we learned

As a team, we recognized that our individual comfort zones could limit our potential for growth. However, by embracing collaboration and stepping outside of our familiar territories, we discovered the different tech stacks. We leveraged our diverse skill sets and knowledge to overcome challenges and create innovative solutions. This experience taught us the value of embracing discomfort and seeking connections between different technologies, ultimately expanding our horizons and strengthening our ability to tackle future projects with confidence. Throughout our journey, we learned valuable lessons about the importance of teamwork and the significance of bridging the gaps between different tech stacks.

What's next for Hack your portfolio is an exciting phase of continuous integration and enhancement of the platform. We are committed to refining and expanding the features of the platform to provide even more personalized and valuable suggestions for portfolio improvement. Additionally, we aim to incorporate feedback from users and iterate on the platform's design and functionality to ensure a seamless and user-friendly experience.
