Inspiration
We were inspired by 2D-platformer games and the importance of nutrition knowledge. 32% of people believe that their lack of knowledge is a significant barrier to achieving a healthier diet.
How it works
Hosted on a website to play the game on the browser :D
Choose your character: play as different foods.
Eat other foods: run and jump through levels, encountering a variety of foods and learn about them as you go!
Get facts about nutrition: learn about calories, micronutrients, macronutrients.
Get a summary of everything you ate during the game and feedback on the nutrition of what was eaten.
How we built it
We used C# and Unity Game Engine with a Python backend. Use of Open API to analyze the foods eaten to make it unique each time played.
Challenges we ran into
Learning new technology like Unity and C#.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing a fully functional game in a short-time frame and how we collaborated together to bring an idea to life.
What we learned
This was our first time exploring game development! We also learned to work with APIs, and to effectively work on a team using source control.
What's next for Hack 'N Snack
Looking forward, there are additional features and improvements to implement. Expanding the food database and adding more food to eat to be more informative. Add power ups to make the game more interactive, and different themed levels such as exploring cuisines or specific topics.
