Inspiration

  • We are web programming beginners and want to provide a high-quality and friendly learning environment for other people that is enthusiastic to learn and develop some web programming languages such as HTML and CSS.

What it does

Hack Merced IDE is an IDE that allows users to develop their HTML/CSS code and run it.

How we built it

  • We start prototyping and design the front end of the IDE
  • We split out team into design, front-end and back-end.
  • We look up online resources such as browser or YouTube Video.

Challenges we ran into

  • Hosting web pages and purchase domain name.
  • Embedding a compiler.
  • Creating a text editor.
  • Learning web programming languages.
  • Understanding the mechanisms behind servers and APIs.
  • Creating high-fidelity prototyping in Figma.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Enable users to develop HTML or CSS code in the code editor.
  • Enable users to choose to run the HTML or CSS code.
  • Allow users to know more about us and our contact information in "About Us" page.
  • Allow users to go to "Home", "About Us" and "IDE" page through the navigation bars.

What's next for Hack Merced IDE

  • Allow more choices of programming languages to be compiler and run.
  • Allow user to push their code to github
