To prevent COVID-19 outbreak in Africa, we made an app that assists in tracing individuals while helping them maintain social distancing with an immersive AR experience and info about local businesses

Greetings from Team Cypher,

We are glad to present our idea in Hack for Africa. It is called "Shield Africa" and we believe it will help millions of people from the African continent.

  1. ## Inspiration for doing the project : We went through various case studies and journals which told us more about the people of Africa and their lifestyle. This helped us in giving the idea of the hack we can develop for them. This also fascinated our team to develop a solution that empowers them to fight COVID-19. We were cautious of the limited testing resources in Africa and wanted to develop something that prevents COVID-19 from spreading and would be widely acceptable.
  2. ## What it does : We have created an app that helps the users maintain social distancing through an immersive AR experience visualizing their safe zone in the real world. The app also helps the authorities to trace the COVID-19 spread. We also provide a direct link between the people and local businesses to help them grow. We prevent the onslaught of misinformation by providing real-time COVID-19 updates.
  3. ## How it works :
    • __Registering Users to the Database__ : Each user upon registration gets a UID and the device is registered to the database.
    • __Detecting nearby devices__ : If the user comes in contact with another, they exchange their UIDs. This is achieved by BLE technology.
    • __Have your personal AR safe zone__ : This is implemented by Unity and Google ARCore.Users can maintain social distance by visualizing their virtual safezone in the real world.
    • __Access nearby stores__ : This is made possible by integrating Google Maps API. Users can approach local stores. This is a win-win situation for both the users and the businesses.
    • __Get real time updates on COVID__ : Users can check the realtime data countrywise as well as worldwide in order to prevent onslaught of misinformation.
  4. ## Challenges we ran into : It was a big challenge for us to develop a hack for a community about which we have very less exposure. Besides this, we also faced some technical problems like integrating cross platform Unity Application in Android, working on Plane Detection by ARCore.
  5. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are proud to build upon technologies like _Augmented Reality(AR)_, _Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)_ which were more or less alienated from us and worked under a short window of time to give life to this idea of ours by building an industry-ready platform from scratch.
  6. ## What's next for Shield Africa :
    1. Applying diameter change functionality for safezone .
    2. News section regarding the African continent integrated with COVID Application Program Interface(API)
    3. Enhanced Navigation so that people can know about the status of not only stores but also government offices while avoiding crowds.
