Inspiration

With people staying home during the COVID-19 outbreak, we think that there are opportunities to promote education for the community. People have extra time when they do not commute to work, and a lot of us do not actually spend this efficiently. Instead of wasting time, we may be better off spending our time on learning something new or sharing our experiences. We want to build a platform that helps promote this idea.

What it does

Our learning platform allows users to sign up as instructors and/or students. As an instructor, you would be able to create topics you would like to teach based on your availability. You would also be able to list all the topics you've created. As a student, you would be able to select from available topics to learn from.

How we built it

We used MongoDB as the database as it is simpler to setup. NodeJS + Express + GraphQL as backend server and query language. ReactJS and Bootstrap as front-end web app.

Challenges we ran into

We started with Amplify, but after a day we could not figure out how to create user directly after sign up with function, so we decided to switch to MERN stack in order to at least build a Proof-of-concept to demonstrate our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of building this POC together as a team.

What we learned

We learned about various issues people faced during the Covid-19 spread, and also a lot of the ideas from the community to support the community during this event.

What's next for hack-care

Maybe an existing knowledge platform like Udemy or Coursera can pick this up and make this a "Community edition" for their existing product, or anyone can continue to contribute more features toward this app.
