Inspiration
In today's digital age, cybersecurity and hacking skills are essential yet exciting fields to explore! We wanted to create an immersive simulator which gives players a taste of these skills and help them relate to the hackers they see across various entertainment platforms! Inspired by the classic hacker trope, Hack Attack is both a fun game and a test of quick thinking!
What it does
Hack Attack is a hacker simulation game where players take on the role of Agent X, navigating through different tasks and surprises to successfully hack into the mainframe after completing all of the mini-games. Tasks include deciphering encrypted text, breaking through surprise firewalls, and much more! Most importantly, the tasks must be completed within the allotted time, or else the player will be caught!
How we built it
We built Hack Attack using Python and the Pygame library to provide an interactive graphical interface. We create each task as a standalone class, handling user input, timing, etc. Pygame allowed us to create custom animations, timed events, and a unique movie-hacker atmosphere that enhances the gameplay!
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge we encountered includes the live timing aspect, as well as connecting the core-game code to the graphical user interface.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have developed a game which is both educational and entertaining! Also, it looks just like the hacker screens we see in various movies and tv shows!
What we learned
Through the project, we have gained deeper insights into game design, as Hack Attack was one of the first games we have developed!
What's next for Hack Attack
Moving forward, we plan to expand Hack Attack to include newer levels which may be more complex, and include more corporations as well! Additionally, we could implement a leaderboard to keep the game competitive amongst players!
