Inspiration
In our opinion the biggest problem with living in this increasingly digital dependent world is that bad habits arise. Instead of daily exercise from going to buy some groceries or meeting up with friends, it is just too convenient to doordash or scroll onto social media as a way to fulfil social needs. With habitual, we want you to retake those good habits back!
What it does
Habitual is a social media app that allows users to broadcast a habits to their friends. They do this by taking a picture of them doing the habit and then sending it to that specific habit page. Only friends that are also doing that habit can see those images and vice versa. The picture taking has to be done daily to be able to view other friends doing that habit like in BeReal. The amount of consecutive days of doing that habit is called a streak which is inspired by snapchat streaks.
How we built it
We used the MERN stack (MongoDB, Expressjs, React, Nodejs).
Challenges we ran into
Setting up the given technologies was very time consuming because most of us did not have experience with at least one of the technologies so it was difficult to connect them all.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We think that this is a solid idea and we have a product that is somewhat presentable.
What we learned
Some of us were previously not familiar with certain frameworks and the integration of those frameworks so those were things we had to learn as we went. In terms of soft skills, we have learnt the importance of teamwork and being on the same page if you want to create a complete and coherent product.
What's next for Habitual
Future updates will be polishing up and UI and UX and proper algorithms for finding relevant habits for each user. Also we will create the possibility of habitual influencer who can start trends and have a following.
