HabitFlow was born out of personal frustration at 3:00 AM. I was struggling to keep track of my university coursework and daily study goals. Simultaneously, I wanted a way to force myself to micro-learn new, advanced concepts in Applied AI and Data Science outside of my standard syllabus. Realising that typical productivity checklists felt too tedious to maintain late at night, I stayed up to build a solution: a gamified task ecosystem that rewards consistent micro-learning while leveraging responsive AI to keep tracking effortless.
What the project does to help you ?
HabitFlow transforms routine studying and habit building into a responsive, gamified loop:
Interactive Pet Companion:Your consistency directly impacts a digital pet. Completing study blocks nurtures your pet, while neglecting habits handles immediate consequences. AI Assistance: Seamlessly integrated responsive workflows to provide instant task breakdowns and actionable productivity insights for complex study topics. Consistency Analytics:Built-in dynamic data pipelines that visualise behavioural trends and long-term habit completion streaks over time.
How I built it:
We architected HabitFlow as an efficient, lightweight full-stack web application optimized for zero latency: AI & Prompt Engineering: Leveraged Google AI Studio alongside advanced Google prompt engineering techniques to design highly responsive assistant modules capable of parsing dense coursework into granular, approachable micro-learning tasks. Backend Framework: Programmed in Python utilizing Antigravity to keep the codebase elegant and efficient, seamlessly handling the core game loops and gamification rule states. Cloud Storage & Persistence: Integrated the Google Drive API to facilitate secure, user-controlled cloud data persistence. Frontend Experience: Designed a fluid UI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to ensure real-time rendering of analytics and gamified state changes. Deployment & DevOps: Containerised the application and deployed it leveraging Google Cloud Run alongside Google cloud to maintain a seamless production environment.
Challenges we ran into:
State Management in Gamification: Designing a reliable achievement engine that accurately maps high-frequency task inputs to real-time pet health metrics without introducing race conditions. API Ingestion Efficiency: Securing smooth cloud persistence loops via the Google Drive API while maintaining an incredibly fast, responsive UI during rapid late-night data updates.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
3 AM to Production: Taking a raw personal frustration born in the middle of the night and successfully engineering it into a deployment-ready, functional full-stack MVP. Fluid Gamification Loop: Building a genuinely engaging emotional anchor through the pet companion system that successfully solves the "streak-dropping" problem common in standard productivity apps.
What we learned
Building HabitFlow reinforced how critical behavior-driven design is in consumer software. We learned how to carefully balance database writing frequencies with cloud platform triggers, mastered containerised micro service deployments via Google Cloud Run, and gained deep insights into structuring game loops within standard web frameworks.
