Inspiration
Aiming to simplify habit formation, HabitFlow began as a response to bulky, over‑engineered habit apps. It serves individuals looking for a lightweight, engaging, and community‑oriented tool to build daily habits.
What it does
HabitFlow lets users set habits, track daily progress, and visualize streaks. It supports authentication, full-stack workflows, and provides real‑time logging, offering quick insight into adherence patterns.
How we built it
The project uses React for the frontend and Firebase (Cloud Firestore + Auth) for backend services. JavaScript, Python, SQL, and Kotlin/Java skills helped integrate a clean UI (HTML/CSS/Tailwind) and scalable modular code. GitHub Codespaces and Firebase hosting simplify deployment and collaboration.
Challenges we ran into
- Managing real‑time updates in Firestore without performance overhead
- Implementing robust authentication flows
- Achieving a responsive design for web across multiple devices
- Coordinating team contributions and CI/CD setup
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Delivering a fully functional, responsive web app within time constraints
- Integrating authentication and real‑time updates smoothly
- Maintaining a clean, scalable codebase visible in public repos
- Demonstrating full-stack capabilities: AI-adjacent tooling, Java/Kotlin backends, React frontends, and database design
What we learned
- Advanced Firestore querying and real‑time data handling
- Best practices in React component architecture and state management
- UX impact on motivation via streak visualization
- Team-based project workflows using Git, Codespaces, and pull requests
What's next for HabitFlow
- Add analytics dashboard with user insights and habit trend charts
- Introduce habit-sharing / accountability partnerships
- Build PWA for mobile use and offline support
- Explore AI-driven habit suggestions & personalized reminders
