Inspiration

"I want to carve a small figurine from green wood, so I'll practice every evening" "I want to learn how to play songs on a ukulele, so I'll practice every morning" The Habit Rabbit team hops in and out of building habits. So, we are always on the lookout for fun ways to hold ourselves accountable to follow through on our habit building ambitions. Yesterday, after checking in at the ILC for Hackher413 , we saw some bunny footprints in the snow and then voila! Habit Rabbit came to be :)

What it does

Just did the action that you have set as your habit? Press the small button on your arduino board, get the instant dopamine boost from the custom buzzer sound and see your habit progress on our website.

Challenges we ran into

We went through the learning curve with learning Arduino programming. Additionally, connecting our Arduino data to the website was also very challenging since this is the first time we have made a website and an Arduino circuit. Racing against the hackathon's time limit was also a challenge that we have eventually come to appreciate.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It works! Our cherished minimum viable project works. We have been pressing the button ever since our first arduino code compiled and it has been awesome every single time! As people who aren't used to the hardware side of computing who let their curiosity take them into the direction of a very hardware coded project, we are very happy with out progress. Interactions with the Hackher413 hardware table staff and the staff at the makerspaces before we started our project helped us start off on a positive note as hardware novices at this hackathon. We made our first ever hardware and web based project all during the past one day, which is very motivating for us as programmers.

What we learned

We learned a lot about web development and Arduino programming. We learnt about Circuits 101 through our Arduino experimenting (and lots of arduino web documents reading). Creating a website for our project was also very gratifying.

What's next for Habit Rabbit

Connecting Habit Rabbit to our website is what's next! We want to create a UI that displays live tracking over the period of 21 days as the user tracks their habit. Both of us are interested in data analytics and there could be many cool graphics to display progress that we interested in integrating. We are both software engineers at heart and enjoy scrum meetings. We are looking to expand Habit Rabbit to include a group section for tracking a team's scrum meeting progress over the development of a project.
