Inspiration
Most habit apps have these problems:
- feature overload - making it feel like project management
- streaks - while serving as a positive pressure becomes the reason to discontinue when it breaks
- generic awards - everyone receives the same thing
- data collection - ungodly amount of device permission beyond whats needed
so I created an app that attempts to overcome it.
What it does
- One habit at a time - set a duration complete it & decide to continue it or create a new one at the end.
- You progress is tracked but a missed day wont kill your habit.
- You create a custom mandala once you complete your daily check in - infinite designs possibility & the mandala gets more dimension the longer you go with daily progress.
- Only notification permission for reminder, no email signup, everything stays on device.
How we built it
Delight, simplicity and play are at the core of the app design.
Challenges we ran into
- No online storage means changing device or clearing app storage on device resets your app/progress. In a world where we create permanence for everything, the app embraces temporary nature by design. The app goes but the habit stays with you.
What's next for Habit Mandala
If it takes off, add more delight without changing the core of focusing on one habit at a time.
