Inspiration
Habits are easier to keep when they're shared. Habit Grove turns daily care into a small collective ritual: everyone in the subreddit tends the same seed.
What it does
Each day, the subreddit gets one shared seed. Players run a 30-second Phaser mini-game, collecting dew while dodging weeds, then plant their score into the community's shared bloom meter. If the group fills the meter before the day ends, the grove keeps its streak and a new seed appears tomorrow.
How we built it
Built on Devvit Web using the official client/server architecture: a Hono server handles daily state and scoring, and a Phaser-powered client renders the interactive mini-game inside a Reddit custom post.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the custom post's webview assets to resolve correctly inside Devvit's build pipeline, and wiring server-side context (@devvit/server) into a Hono app so we could call the Reddit API and create posts directly from a moderator menu action.
What we learned
How Devvit Web's client/server split and custom post entrypoints work under the hood, and how much a simple shared goal (one meter, one streak) can carry a daily retention loop.
What's next in habit-groove
Daily seed variety, lightweight social touches like community milestones, and mobile polish.
