Inspiration
I'm Wilberth Fernández, a Mechatronics Engineer and field systems integrator from Cancún, Mexico. Since 2016, I've worked directly in homes, businesses, hotels, warehouses and industrial sites across the Yucatán Peninsula installing CCTV systems, industrial automation, access control, GPS tracking, and networking infrastructure.
Like millions of technical workers across Latin America, my reputation lived only in conversations. No verified profile. No documented history. No digital proof of years of experience.
Every project started the same way: a client opening the door and deciding whether to trust me — not because they could verify my work, but because they had no other option.
The problem wasn't talent. The problem was trust infrastructure.
That's why Habilis exists.
What it does
Habilis is a professional reputation and documentation platform for technical workers — electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, welders, painters, and more.
Every completed job becomes a verified case file containing:
- Before / during / after photo evidence
- Materials used and time invested
- Client validation and review
- SAT invoice (CFDI) generation for Pro members
Workers build a verified digital identity over time.
Clients find technicians with a real, traceable track record.
Gemini AI writes professional profiles from plain language input,
classifies jobs automatically, and helps technicians respond
to clients professionally.
How we built it
- Gemini API — AI core: profile enhancement, job classification, client response suggestions, spam detection, and smart technician matching
- Firebase (Google Cloud) — Authentication, Firestore database, and Storage for photo evidence
- React + Vite — Frontend web application
- JavaScript + Python — Business logic and integrations
The architecture is designed so every key workflow runs through Gemini — from the moment a technician writes their first profile to the moment a client finds and contacts them.
Challenges we ran into
The hardest challenge was not technical — it was human.
Technical workers in Mexico are not used to digital tools. Many don't write well. Many distrust platforms. Many have been ignored by technology their entire careers.
Designing Gemini's profile builder to work with rough, misspelled, informal input — and return something the worker is proud of — required careful prompt engineering and multiple iterations.
The second challenge: building real trust signals without becoming a social network. Habilis is not Facebook for technicians. Every feature had to serve one purpose: document real work, build real reputation.

- Built a working MVP with full Firebase + Gemini integration
- Designed the Work Expedition system — a complete case file connecting photos, costs, materials, invoices, and client reviews in one document
- Gemini profile builder that transforms informal input into professional profiles regardless of spelling or grammar
- A business model validated by 9 years of firsthand experience in the exact market we serve
What we learned
That the most powerful AI applications are not the most complex ones.
Gemini's greatest impact in Habilis is not the matching algorithm — it's giving a voice to workers who never had the words to describe themselves professionally.
A plumber with 20 years of experience who writes "soy plomero hago de todo soy bueno" deserves a profile that reflects who he actually is.
Gemini does that. That's the real innovation.
What's next for Habilis
90 days: Launch in Cancún. First 100 paying Pro members at $100 MXN/month. Real revenue. Real users.
6 months: Expand to CDMX, Guadalajara, Monterrey.
1 year: Full SAT invoicing integration, scheduled maintenance contracts, and supplier network for Pro members.
Long term: The verified professional identity layer for every technical worker in Latin America.
30 million workers in Mexico alone.
Hundreds of millions across the region.
All of them deserve to be found.
