Inspiration

The whole world is collaborating to reduce the impact of a random mutation of a wild virus, deciphering the virus genetic sequence, circulating facts and data and details on the symptoms and resistance of the virus on the surfaces. COVID hit hard, but it will also be a big win for the human race, a historical moment where we will be able to defeat a deadly threat globally. There are no nations, no human races, no religions, no prejudices but just facts, scientific proofs and a coordinated efforts from different countries where the real heroes and saints are the people working in the health sector. The pandemic is the celebration of humans; it could positively change our society for good. The Internet is allowing us to communicate, to take care of the most vulnerable persons, to stay entertained and sane. Actually, here at H_Pass we would like to improve the quality and bolster the restart. We want to help the humans to be free form the fear of the next pandemic or next winter flu or virus, launching the first sustainable Health pass for international travelling.

What it does

H-Pass is the first sustainable travelling information system. It gives peace of mind travelling solution for enhanced safety, disease spreading prevention, risk avoidance and emergency rescuing. H-Pass gives you a realtime assessment if you have been exposed to a risky situation/contact with a simple traffic light colour code;

Registration. It allows you to save privately on a distributed blockchain ledger your medical information and let your GP verify it. You can design multiple health care agents, so in case of accident or loss of conscience, the health care operator using the patient fingerprint can ask the authorisation to get vital health information.

Before the travel. At the moment of check-in, your encoded document of identity will be the key to get on board (green light), or a quick consultation with a temperature check will be requested (yellow light). An AI bot will ask you simple health check questions, and the information will be used for the assessment. It could also be connected with your biometric watch or with an infrared camera for the self-assessment of body temperature. Vulnerable of at people with high risk (red light) will get a deeper assessment and individual care, and they will be allocated in a safer area of the train/plane/bus.

After the travel. In case your history has increased your probability of being exposed, it could raise your attention level from green to yellow so you could monitor the available information closely and request additional checks. If a mild situation of risk arise the AI bot will monitor your condition for the following weeks until the probability of infection are close to zero.

Emergency accident. In case of emergency or loss of conscience, a biometric sensor can be used by health operators to request access to essential information to decide the most effective treatment. The health operator can also provide realtime updates to the tracking system providing a rapid countermeasure against the spreading of the disease.

Benefit for travel operators. It allows travel operator to control travel conditions and offer a dynamic seat allocation to protect people at risk and limit infection spreading. Airline, train and bus companies can use the service and get a special care certification for customers assistance.

Top features:

  • Privacy is our top priority; no personal data will be exchanged among different operators, the distributed ledger and private/public key certificate will ensure the respect of the privacy;

  • It will be embedded into the check-in system, in airports, train stations and international bus lines;

Business model and adoption

The business model is simple and sustainable 1 cent per traveling ticket (airplane, bus, train) - in 2017 the number of EU international airline tickets was 1 billion. 1,000,000,000 x 0.01 Euro = 100,000,000 Euro per year, more than enough to have a platform with 750 million of users and 1b records per year which is around 3mil records per day (just from air flights).

The path of the business will follow regular start ups conditions, 0.8M (start)+ 0.8M seed funding (in 1 year), 4M series A in case of success implementation in a single airport (in 2 years), 10M (in 4 years) for scaling, then it will become cash positive in few years. As an example, an airport such a Dublin Airport can bring a cashflow of 11million people per year x 0.01 Euro = 110,000 Euro to reduce the burning cost after the seed funding.

Road to the market

The road to market will be a bit more complex. After an agent based simulation test, the pilot will need to start from a decentralised airport, e.g. Pisa Airport that will be used as a test bed. Than the plan will be to adopt the system to a bigger airport for instance Dublin Airport and then it will be tested in highly connected airports such as Frankfurt or Paris. When we will have have a penetration of 10% airports then we could enforce the use through Airport Association and EU legislation. In two/three years the use can be enforced in train, taxi, buses and similar transport categories.A team of 30 people can start the simulation, development and communication activies, interacting at Airline/Airport association level and then a local country level.

Year 1 - 1 R&D Senior + 1 PhD + 1 CTO + 1 CEO + 5 Developers + 1 Business Managers - Total 10 people - burnout first year around 700k

Year 2 - 1 R&D Senior + 1 PhDs + 1 CTO + 1 CEO + 5 Developers + 2 Business Managers - Total 12 people - burnout year 2 around 800k (+ 110k from 1st Airport implementation)

Year 3 - 3 R&D Senior + 2 PhDs + 1 CTO + 1 CEO + 20 Developers + 3 Business Managers - Total 30 people - burnout year 3 around 2M + (revenue from airports)

To be continued...

How I built it

The app mockup was built with photoshop but the system will have a common API on a cloud environment plus a certified distributed blockchain ledger and an anonymous data lake for machine learning inference. The interface will be built in React + Django while the bot will use Keras. The app can be developed with the same stack using Electron.

Challenges I ran into

How to enforce it? It is legally feasible such a distributed system?

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Good work in a couple of days.

What I learned

I learned to work in a new team and listen to new point of view.

What's next for H_Pass

We will apply for EU funding or we will look into traveling companies that will help us to create a pilot.
