Inspiration
Our inspiration was other websites that utilize gamification such as DuoLingo and foursquare.
What it does
Our website promotes water conservation habits through gamification.
How we built it
We used the standard web development tools (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to build the website. We also used jQuery and Twitter Bootstrap to handle some front-end code. For our back-end, we used Firebase for the database and a Node.js server.
Challenges we ran into
One of our members is a beginner at Web Development so we had to learn as we went along.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We managed to get an authentication system and back-end working well with the front-end.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to manage a Git flow with multiple members on a team and reassess expectations along the way. We also learned about the technical aspects of building a functional web app that is connected with the cloud.
What's next for H2O Grow
In the future, we plan on implementing multiple features that we could not fit into the 12 hour time period allotted for programming. More specifically we plan on adding a social aspect to our application in which users can interact and compete with each other to further incentivize the use of the app. We also plan on increasing the quality of our assets such as our logo and other images. In addition, to improve user retainability we hope to implement a store and a form of currency within the site so users can be rewarded for their efforts.
