Inspiration
Growing up, I can see how our planet has changed drastically over the past few years- mostly for the worse. I wanted to create a program that would help others learn how to take care of Earth, and encourage them to do what they can to benefit our planet.
What it does
EarthBuddy is a friendly bot designed that allows users to complete activities all while learning about what we can do to save our planet. These activities include things such as informing if you can recycle an object based on your choices, explaining words in the EarthBuddy dictionary, and teaching you how to reduce the user's carbon footprint based on what the user does in their daily lives.
How we built it
EarthBuddy was created with Python in Google Colaboratory.
Challenges we ran into
EarthBuddy has many different options and choices for the user to choose and explore, and it was quite hard to keep track of while coding. I was able to overcome this however by splitting the workload into smaller pieces of code, and combining them at the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is the biggest coding project I have ever programmed. I am so proud of how my output looks and how I was able to find errors in my code and write solutions for them. It was definitely a challenge, but I had a lot of fun coding EarthBuddy!
What we learned
Python is the first coding language I learned, and I was able to use my knowledge of it to complete this program. But EarthBuddy also allowed me to use parts of Python that I haven't explored before, such as functions and while loops. When coding this program, I also had to consider user error, and divert them to something more user-friendly.
What's next for EarthBuddy
I would love EarthBuddy to be turned into a website catered to younger kids, since in the future, our planet will be in their hands!
