Inspiration:

Our inspiration for ToyotaZ stems from a profound commitment to Toyota's global vision - to lead the future of mobility and enrich lives with the safest and most responsible ways of moving people. We were motivated by the aspiration to create an application that not only encourages safe driving but also fosters a sense of community among users. We envisioned a world where technology enhances the driving experience, incentivizes responsible behavior, and strengthens the bonds between drivers. Through ceaseless innovation and a deep respect for the planet, ToyotaZ was born with the aim to exceed expectations and bring smiles to all those who interact with it.

What it does:

ToyotaZ is not just an app; it's a revolutionary driving companion that redefines the way we approach the road. At its core, ToyotaZ incentivizes good driving by offering a range of features. The "Start Drive" and "Stop Drive" sections offer real-time driving metrics and a grading system, providing immediate feedback on driving performance. The "Friends" tab functions as a leaderboard, enabling users to track how their friends are driving, fostering healthy competition, and encouraging responsible driving habits. The "Point Shop" section allows users to redeem coupons and discounts by earning points through good driving behavior. There is an information section providing personalized advice on improving driving skills based on data from the start and stop tabs. The AI will give advice on how to improve driver rating as well.

How we built it:

ToyotaZ is built on a foundation of cutting-edge technology. We utilized Next.js, TypeScript, React, Python, and Flask to create a robust and user-friendly mobile app. To make this vision a reality, we developed our own APIs. One of these APIs retrieves and processes driving metrics, while the other connects to the ChatGPT API, enabling the chatbot's AI-driven advice. The development process involved meticulous coding, rigorous testing, and continuous optimization to ensure a seamless user experience.

Challenges we ran into:

Building ToyotaZ came with its fair share of challenges. Integrating our custom APIs for driving metrics and the ChatGPT API proved to be technically complex. Synchronizing data seamlessly across different app components demanded careful planning and execution. Our team worked tirelessly to overcome these obstacles and ensure that ToyotaZ would operate seamlessly and effectively, all while maintaining the highest standards of quality.

What we learned:

We gained a deep understanding of how to effectively keep track of data, both in terms of driving metrics and user interactions. This included the development and integration of custom APIs to retrieve and process driving data. We also learned how to seamlessly connect these APIs to the frontend, ensuring smooth data flow and user experience. Building ToyotaZ allowed us to significantly advance our expertise in mobile app development. We honed our skills in Next.js, TypeScript, React, Python, and Flask, and learned to create a user-friendly app that meets the highest standards of quality and performance. We mastered the art of sending data across components within the app. This communication is vital for ensuring that user interactions, such as starting and stopping drives, seamlessly feed into the system for real-time metrics and grading. Overcoming challenges in the development process taught us valuable problem-solving skills. We learned to address complex technical issues.

What's next for ToyotaZ:

The journey for ToyotaZ is just beginning. In the future, we aim to integrate more advanced AI-driven features for even more personalized driving advice. To enhance the driving experience and provide valuable location-based services, we're planning to integrate a mapping API, such as Google Maps. This integration will enable ToyotaZ to keep track of distances traveled, record locations, and offer users features like route tracking, geolocation-based rewards, and real-time traffic updates. It will not only make the app more informative but also more fun and engaging for users.
