Inspiration
Richard found a cool thing he could do with his phone.
What it does
Tennis. With your phone. Thought we covered that.
How we built it
We used Unity and C#, plus a gyro app for iPhone, plus a little bit of duct tape and string.
Challenges we ran into
Git hates Unity. Like, really hates it. The gyro controls move the tennis racket in-game via transforms. Unfortunately, this means that when the racket collides with the ball it is technically a static object. To solve this, we had to create a separate physics-based object that moves using forces to follow the gyro-controlled racket so that it has force and torque applied when it hits the ball.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Kamil won the chess tournament! Made a cool racket! Also we totally managed to do a thing, while serving coffees every five minutes.
What we learned
Notepad++ is king. No VCS with Unity.
What's next for GyroTennis
Adding multiplayer.
