INSPIRATION
The idea for GyroSpoon came to us when we saw how hard it is for people with hand tremors to eat. We wanted to make something that could help them. So we decided to create a device that could make it easier for them to use a spoon. This way they can eat on their own and feel more comfortable.
WHAT GyroSpoon DOES
GyroSpoon is a spoon that uses a sensor to detect when someones hand is shaking. It then uses motors to make the spoon more stable. It also has a sensor to check the temperature of the food and a small screen to show the user what is going on.
HOW WE MADE GyroSpoon
To make GyroSpoon we used a few parts. We used an Arduino which's a small computer. We also used a sensor and some small motors. We added a temperature sensor and a small screen. We had to use a battery and a charger. We even used a boost converter to make sure everything worked properly. The Arduino helps the sensor and the motors work together.
CHALLENGES FACED
- We had trouble getting the sensor to work right. Finding the right library took us sometime and the calibration also took us some time.
- The servo position and the counter-action was hard to achieve.
- The motors were using much power and it was causing problems.
- We had to fit all the parts into a small space.
WHAT WE LEARNED
Working on GyroSpoon taught us a lot. We learned about embedded systems and how to work with sensors. We learned how to control the motors and how to fix problems. We also learned how important it is to test things.
FUTURE PLANS FOR GyroSpoon
We want to make GyroSpoon better. This version of the spoon is a mere prototype and we aim to make it better and the works are underway. We have started designing a PCB to make it even compact, we are also going to be designing a casing using CAD tools and we are also going to integrate a Power source with good battery back-up.
