A Pressing Issue 😰

Regular gynecologist visits are crucial to a woman’s health. However, in India, sexual and reproductive health is centered around maternal care.
Health Over Stigma, a survey conducted by the Delhi-based Non Profit Organization Haiyya, revealed that only 1% of women have received information on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) from their mothers, doctors or government campaigns. It showed that unmarried women are often denied services, misinformed or coerced into decisions.
95% of unmarried women had never visited a gynaecologist to take consultation on sex, pleasure or contraception.
A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research of 93,356 married women in rural areas showed that only 20.6% of women knew the availability of services for gynaecological problems.
Out of the 14.2% women who visited some health facility for their gynaecological problems only 9.8% felt satisfied with the availed services.

Statistics on women's Health Care in India

Adding to that issue, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in India, said that there is a 75% overall shortfall of gynecologists at Community Health Centres (CHCs) in States and Union Territories.

An Accessible Solution 🙌

Introducing GyneConnect, a website where women can feel secure when finding trustworthy gynecologists 👩‍⚕️ in their area.

  • To find a medical professional, the user must type their location 🌍 in the Find a Doctor tab.
  • GyneConnect will then provide a list of all available doctors in the area, as well as a list of tags ✅ and reviews✍.
  • If the user selects a gynecologist, they can click on the Learn more button, and they will be redirected to the full profile of the doctor.
  • There they can read the full professional profile of the medical specialist, and can make an appoinment using the Book button at the bottom of the page.🙋‍♀️
  • To book an appoinment, they must select a form of meeting - online🏡 or in the hospital🏥, as well as choose date and time🕖 from the list provided by the doctor.
If online meeding is selected, the meeding link will be automatically generated and displayed on the status bar on the same page.

After the consultation, patients are encouraged to submit their rating⭐ and review📝 on the doctor to enable future patients to feel more secure when booking a consultation with the chosen medical professional.

If users find any discrepancies for any doctor listed on GyneConnect, they can fill the Report📨 form so that it can be rectified.

If users have any questions❓, they can use our chatbot 🤖 on the main page. The chatbot provides the answers, if it has one, else it saves the question in a database📚, so it can be answered by the medical professionals🥼 on the website and later added back to the bot.

Both users and doctors can fully customise🎨 their profiles - adding profile pictures and editing their information.

### For Doctors

Doctors can easily register as a gynecologist on the sign-up page.
The information will then be thoroughly verified ☑ to ensure they are a legitimate practitioners. This provides an accessible solution to the women in India who are struggling to find trustworthy and well-trained gynecologists to consult to, free from any judgement.
The doctors are also encouraged to answer user questions, aksed via the chatbot, to ensure that users are well-informed📙 when making a decision regarding their health.

Accomplishments that We’re Proud Of

As women ourselves, we have always wanted other women🤝 to feel secure when doing health-related check-ups. Since going to the gynecologist has always been stigmatized, we are able to make women feel safer🦸‍♀️ as they can find trustworthy gynecologists who will not judge them. We are also very excited to be able to create this platform that would be useful for women in the short span of time that we were given!✨

Challenges We Ran Into

Time was our biggest challenge, as we wanted to implement as many features as possible.

What we learned

While creading this project, we learned how underestimated😕 the issue is. It turned out to be a mush bigger problem than we anticipated, so that became our motivation to work even harder on the solution!

What’s next for GyneConnect GyneConnect plans to expand its geographical 🗺 coverage to other countries in Asia. We are also planning to implement a reminder⏰ system from the website for both the doctor and patient 15 minutes prior to the appointment.
